Frequently asked questions: The repair

How do I send my watch to you?
Create an account in ‘send your watch’, then submit a ‘new repair request’ in my services/repairs. We will then send you prepaid packaging so you can post your watch back to us securely through your local post office..
How will I know if you have received my watch?
You will be sent an email within a couple of days of us receiving your watch with our assessment of work to be carried out. You can also track the progress of your service/repair any time by logging into your account/tracking details HERE.
Will you send me an estimate for the repair?
Once your watch has been assessed by one of our watch technicians and the required work to be carried out is established, we shall email you a detailed estimate for the repair of your watch.
When will you start the repair?
When you have agreed to the estimate and paid for your watch’s repair through your account.
How do I track my repair?
You will receive email notifications as your watch moves through our service centre and is despatched. You can also track the progress of your repair any time throughout the process, simply log into your account/tracking details.
How long will I have to wait?
Upon receiving payment or warranty claims approved you will receive an email providing you with an estimated completion date. Generally service/repairs take 4 to 6 weeks to complete. However, occasionally it will be necessary to source parts from the manufacturer which would delay the process. In this event you will be advised by email.

We hold spare parts for the vast majority of standard repair processes at our service centre.  However, occasionally it will be necessary to source the parts from one of our manufacturers which may delay the process. In this event you will be advised by email.
When will you return my watch to me?
Once your watch has been serviced/repaired it will be returned to you by special delivery post. 

We shall send you an email on the day of dispatch with the courier’s parcel tracking number and contact details.
Can I bring my watch to you personally?

Which payment options do you accept?
We accept all major Credit/Debit cards with the exception of American Express.
How do I pay for my service/repair?
You can log into your account and pay online for your repair by credit or debit card. Repairs will not be undertaken prior to your payment.
I am not happy about paying for services online – is there another way I can pay?
If you would prefer to pay over the telephone please contact our repair centre on 01428 664704.

We accept cheques made payable to SWICO Limited, however this will delay your speed of service.  however please note that a payment made online with a credit/debit card will speed up the process. No repair is undertaken without the payment clearing first.
Are my credit or debit card details saved in my account?
No, we store no financal information on our servers.

Providing the repair is at estimate stage, of course.
Can I change/cancel my order?
Please call our repair department immediately with your request in this instance

If you have already agreed to the service/repair of your watch and paid for it, unless we have yet to start the service/repair, we regret that we cannot cancel and refund your money. 

Regrettably if ‘special order’ spare parts have been ordered from the manufacturer on your behalf, we cannot refund their cost even if the repair has not started.

What are the terms of my guarantee?
An International Guarantee applies only to watches purchased at an approved dealer and where the GUARANTEE CARD has been filled in completely and correctly by the dealer. It is valid for the stated period on the guarantee card from the date of purchase.
I have lost my guarantee card but still have my purchase receipt, will you accept this?
Providing the watch has been purchased at an approved dealer.
Does my guarantee cover accidental damage?
Accidental damaged is not covered by any guarantee card.
Once I have had my watch repaired with you will you guarantee its future performance?
We provide a year’s guarantee only for the repair work that we carry out on your watch.

Certificate of guarantee

A valid guarantee card covers defects in the watch’s materials or resulting from a manufacturing fault. 
Not included in the manufacturer’s guarantee:
  • Battery, glass, non-metallic bracelet.
  • Damage due to an accident, normal wear and tear, negligence, poor treatment or attempts to repair by unauthorised Parties.
  • Loss or theft.
In case of defects covered by the guarantee, your watch will be repaired or replaced free of charge at the sole discretion of the manufacturer.

The watch must be accompanied by the duly completed GUARANTEE CARD.
Unauthorised repairs will invalidate your guarantee.

Frequently asked questions: Cases and bracelets.

Can I purchase a new case and or bracelet for my watch?
Stock permitting, we endeavour to source and supply cases and bracelets for all of our models.  NB.  In the case of bracelets this only applies to models originally fitted with a metal bracelet.
Can I have my watch case and bracelet refurbished?
Depending on the condition of your watch, we may be able to refurbish steel, steel and gold or solid gold models. Gold plated watches are not suitable for refurbishment.  However, stock permitting, we may be able to source and supply new cases and bracelets for current and certain older models.
Frequently asked questions: Straps

Watch straps are not covered by our International Guarantee because, as with all leather goods, their durability depends entirely on the life style of the individual owner.
Can I purchase a replacement strap for my watch?
Stock permitting, we should be able to source and supply new straps for old.

The price quoted is based on the information you provide. If on receipt of the watch the description is not accurate of there is a requirement for a major component then we will advise you of the revised cost.

Quartz Battery replacement


To carry out a Battery replacement/mini service our watchmakers will:


1. Remove the quartz movement from case.
2. Remove the spent/dead cell/battery.
3. Clean the contacts on the circuits
4. Fit a new cell/battery.
5. Check the electronics using various testing apparatus.
6. Clean the case and bracelet in an ultrasonic tank using non corrosive liquid.
7. Dry and vacuum the case.
8. Refit the movement.
9. Replace all faulty or worn seals.
10. Reseal the watch and check in special apparatus for water resistancy.*
11. Test the watch for 24 hours.

Replenishing the cell/battery may not guarantee the future performance of the watch. Please refer our service recommendation for quartz watches. A full-service is a lot more intricate and guaranteed for 2 years. A battery replacements does not come with a guarantee.

Quartz Service


This is the procedure our watchmakers will perform when carrying out a service:


1. Remove the quartz movement from the case.
2. Remove the dial and hands from the movement and inspect for damage.
3. Strip the movement, separating electronic and mechanical parts.
4. Clean the mechanical parts in ultrasonic an machine.
5. Check the mechanical parts for wear and replace where necessary.
6. Reassemble and lubricate all mechanical parts.
7. Check electronics and replace faulty parts where necessary.
8. Reassemble the complete movement and fit new cell/battery.
9. Inspect reassembled movement.
10. Refit the dial and hands.
11. Clean case in the ultrasonic tank using a non-corrosive solution.
12. Air vacuum case to remove any residue.
13. Refit movement, dial and hands into case - check the crown and all seals and replace where necessary.
14. Timepiece checked in special apparatus for water resistance.
15. Test the movement on timing machine for accuracy.
16. Finally inspect watch after 48 hours.

4. Clean the parts in an ultrasonic machine.
5. Check all mechanical parts for wear and replace where necessary.
6. Reassemble the movement and lubricate mechanical parts.
7. Check the balance wheel and hair spring.
8. Check the accuracy of the movement on a timing machine.
9. Refit the dial and hands.
10. Clean the case or case/bracelet in an ultrasonic tank.
11. Fit a new glass when required or requested.
12. Air vacuum the case to remove any residue.
13. Refit the movement, dial and hands into the case.
14. Check seals and replace where necessary.
15. Timepiece checked in special apparatus for water resistance.*
16. Test watch once again on timing machine for accuracy.
17. Automatic watches put on 24 hour electronic winding machine.
18. Finally inspect after 48 hours.
